The Bahá’í Faith is a world religion whose purpose is to unite all the races and peoples of the world and to establish a civilization founded on justice, equality, and unity in diversity. Bahá’ís are the followers of Bahá’u’lláh, who we believe is the Promised One of all Ages and the great spiritual Educator of our time.
Bahá’u’lláh teaches that God is unknowable in His essence and that we cannot understand the nature of God. However, God’s love constantly touches our lives. In every age, He in His infinite mercy sends us spiritual Educators to revive the hearts and awaken the souls. Today we may see many signs of the world falling apart. People are occupied with their own petty concerns, truth is attacked and hatred is aflame. Yet, we can also notice instances of people coming together, supporting one another, and working for justice and harmony. These two processes—of destruction and construction, disintegration and integration—can be seen as part of the nature of this moment in history. Humanity, we can say, is in transition from a stage of adolescence to one of adulthood. God has sent two Divine Teachers to guide humanity through this period of its collective development: the Báb, Who announced a new age of human existence, and Bahá’u’lláh, Whose teachings will bring about that long-promised time when all humanity will live side by side in peace and unity.
Those who respond to Bahá’u’lláh’s call are working day and night to change this world into another world, so that this darksome earth may be flooded with light. They are applying His teachings to work for change in their own lives, within their families, and in their communities. They have conversations about Bahá’u’lláh and His teachings with their families, friends, neighbors and coworkers, gather for collective prayer, visit one another in their homes to discuss themes of spiritual import, dedicate themselves to the spiritual education of children and assist junior youth to become empowered to direct their energies toward the advancement of civilization. This is happening around the world, in community after community. Every population has a unique contribution to make to the global transformation that is needed.
